Georgetown, SC

Georgetown is a city of history, a center of commerce, and a good destination for at least a day trip for those staying on the nearby Waccamaw Neck. After a failed Spanish settlement in 1526, George Towne was founded around 1750 by the British and is the third oldest city in the state. There is a significant port in the city. Four rivers converge here to form Winyah Bay and the Atlantic Ocean (although some claim the Atlantic is formed by the Cooper and Ashley Rivers in Charleston). The downtown area and historic district offer shopping, dining, walking tours on your own, guided tours, and even a boardwalk overlooking the harbor. Learn more about the town here.
